Heads Of State Movie Review Synopsis: HEADS OF STATE is the story of two country premiers in an unusual situation. In Buñol, Spain, a joint operation of FBI and MI6, headed by Noel Bisset (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) fails miserably. Several agents die and even Noel is presumed dead. A few days later, US President Will Derringer (John Cena) and UK Prime Minister Sam Clarke (Idris Elba) meet in London for a greater cause, concerning clean energy. Both can't stand each other and yet, share the stage for the press meet. Things go South as the media asks about the failed Buñol operation. Will and Sam end up exposing their differences while reacting to the incident. As a damage control measure, it is suggested that Will and Sam should travel together in the Air Force One plane to the G20 conference to be held in Trieste, Italy and also wave before boarding the flight. They hope that it would indicate to the press that all is well. The plan is put in motion and the flight takes off. Mid-air, an attempt is made to finish off both Will and Sam and crash the plane. Will and Sam jump off the plane using the last two parachutes. The Air Force One plane crashes in the forest of Belarus. Meanwhile, news spreads that Will and Sam are dead though in reality, they survive. They realize that those who tried to kill them should not know that they are alive. As a result, they destroy their phones and they attempt hitchhiking a ride to a safehouse in Warsaw, Poland. The journey won't be easy for several reasons. Will and Sam despise each other. Secondly, both are the most recognizable faces on the planet and hence, their identity can be known and publicized anytime. Lastly, the ones who tried to bring the plane down are still lurking around. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

Heads Of State Movie Story Review: Harrison Query's story is fantastic. Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec and Harrison Query's screenplay is a bit cliched and also has cinematic liberties. But it’s also very captivating. The dialogues are one of the USPs.

Ilya Naishuller's direction is entertaining. There have been many such 'road trip' films before, that is, two characters, who can't see eye-to-eye are forced to be together and fight a common enemy. But here, what makes it interesting is that they are premiers of the two most powerful nations on Earth. On top of it, you realize that even the antagonist is menacing. If he can attempt to harm them, he won't stop at anything as he has no fear. A few scenes stand out like the embarrassing press conference, the fight on the Belarus farm and the encounter with the sheep. The track of Marty Comer (Jack Quaid) contributes to the overall chaos and fun. The climax is fitting.

On the flipside, there are too many cinematic liberties. The agencies of both countries seemed to lack the will to track down the villains even after they attempted to kill the state heads. It becomes clear after a point to Will and Sam that they are being tracked using CCTV cameras. Yet, they keep exposing themselves. The film gets repetitive in the middle. The Croatia track is fun but is too far-fetched.

Heads Of State Movie Review Performances: John Cena and Idris Elba equally play their parts with panache. The film rests on their strong shoulders and they ensure the viewers will be amused by their antics. Priyanka Chopra Jonas disappears for some time but dominates in the second half. Performance-wise, she’s first rate and the way she has fought the baddies will be loved. In fact, this is her most action-packed role ever. Jack Quaid leaves a huge mark in a special appearance. Paddy Considine (Viktor Gradov) is decent as the villain. Adrian Lukis (Jack Gordon; journalist), Simone Bradshaw (Sarah Niles), Richard Coyle (Quincy Harrington), Carla Gugino (VP Elizabeth Kirk) and others lend able support.

Heads Of State movie music and other technical aspects: Steven Price's music is effective. Ben Davis' cinematography is breathtaking and gritty in action scenes. The action is likeable and not gory or violent, except for a few shots. Niall Moroney's production design is rich while Jany Temime's costumes are classy. Tom Harrison-Read's editing is slick but stagnates in some places. The transition in two shots, where characters are explaining how they travelled extensively, is stylish and unique.

Heads Of State Movie Review Conclusion: On the whole, HEADS OF STATE thrives on a gripping geopolitical premise, powered by the electric camaraderie between John Cena and Idris Elba. The icing on the cake is Priyanka Chopra in her most action-packed role ever. Thanks to the casting, subject and abundance of entertainment, it’s bound to fetch huge viewership for Amazon Prime Video.

One of the most or arguably the most awaited films of Indian cinema, Ramayana, is more than a year away from release. However, the excitement is tremendous for it as it will tell a story that resonates deeply with Indians. Moreover, its casting has also grabbed eyeballs and further enhanced curiosity. Since a long time, there have been reports that the teaser will be released. Bollywood Hungama has learned that the unveiling of the promo is finally happening in just a few days.

The announcement promo will be launched with great fanfare on Thursday, July 3, at a multiplex in central Mumbai. As per the message sent by the publicity team to the media, the makers plan to exclusively unveil ‘Ramayana: The Introduction, the first official glimpse into the world of Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana, a landmark cinematic event that sets the stage for one of the biggest films ever made’. However, there has been no information on whether the team and cast of the film will be present at this significant event.

There were speculations that the first glimpse of Ramayana will be unveiled at WAVES 2025, which was held between May 1-4, 2025. On May 5, a 2-minute 36-minute second-long title announcement video of the film was passed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a ‘U’ certificate. Then, on June 23, a 3-minute video was certified by the CBFC and it was also awarded a ‘U’ certificate.

Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman and KGF star Yash as Ravana. It is directed by Nitesh Tiwari of Dangal and Chhichhore fame.

At WAVES, Namit Malhotra of Prime Focus revealed that they attempt to take Ramayana to the farthest corners of the world using AI. He said, “We want to make it feel local to the world. With the use of some technology, we are attempting to localize the film in languages with performances. It means it should play in English with lip-sync; without subtitles or dubbed versions. In Spain, it should be in Spanish and in Japan, it should be in Japanese. This is possible because of technology.”

The first part of Ramayana releases in cinemas on Diwali 2026 while the second part will be out on Diwali 2027.

Riteish Deshmukh’s portrayal of Sania in Apna Sapna Money Money, where he cross-dressed and adopted the persona of a woman, remains one of his most iconic comic roles. And now, it seems the actor is all set to revisit this memorable character in an upcoming film backed by veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai.

On June 30, Ghai took to his social media handle to share a still of Riteish in his female avatar from the 2006 comedy. Alongside the image, he wrote, “She is our next heroine in our forthcoming film under Mukta Arts.” He further described him as “a classic beauty.” While the filmmaker has not disclosed additional details about the project, the post has already generated excitement among fans.

It’s worth noting that Apna Sapna Money Money isn’t the only film in which Riteish has played a female character. He also took on similar disguises in Humshakals, a Sajid Khan directorial co-starring Saif Ali Khan and Ram Kapoor.

For now, fans will have to wait for more updates, but the prospect of seeing Riteish return to his beloved comic timing and cross-dressing antics has certainly created a buzz.

On the professional front, Riteish was last seen in Raid 2, where he played the antagonist opposite Ajay Devgn. He also appeared in the fifth installment of the Housefull franchise. His upcoming slate includes several exciting projects, including Masti 4.

Despite their debut projects receiving lukewarm responses, star kids Rasha Thadani and Ibrahim Ali Khan continue to enjoy significant popularity on social media. Now, there’s an exciting update for their fans—if reports are to be believed, the two are all set to share screen space for the first time in an upcoming film.

According to a report by Mid-Day, a source close to the production revealed, “Ibrahim and Rasha have been doing reading sessions and workshops. The makers were clear that they didn’t want just a glamorous pair, but two actors who could tap into the awkward, exhilarating energy of first love. Rasha and Ibrahim clicked from their very first meeting.” The source further added, “While he debuted with a rom-com, Ibrahim will be seen in intense roles in Sarzameen and Diler, the latter featuring him as a marathoner. After those two outings, this film—with its coming-of-age arc—will showcase a softer and more relatable side of him.”

If confirmed, this project would mark Ibrahim’s second foray into the romantic genre. His debut film Naadanaiyaan, which was released directly on Netflix, was a romantic comedy. However, his performance received mixed to negative feedback, with critics pointing out issues with his expressions, dialogue delivery, and dubbing.

On the other hand, Rasha made her debut in the theatrical release Azaad, which also introduced Ajay Devgn’s nephew, Aaman Devgn. While the film didn’t fare well at the box office, Rasha’s performance was appreciated by audiences.

It will certainly be interesting to see Rasha and Ibrahim come together for a romantic drama. As of now, there has been no official confirmation or denial from the actors or the makers. Fans will have to wait for an official announcement.

The sudden demise of actress and television personality Shefali Jariwala has once again brought celebrity health into sharp focus. Following the announcement of her death, the internet was flooded with condolences. However, the conversation has now since shifted to a pressing concern: how, despite seemingly healthy lifestyles, several celebrities are increasingly falling victim to cardiac issues such as heart attacks and cardiac arrests.

Amid this ongoing discussion, reports have emerged suggesting that the use of anti-aging injections may have played a role in triggering Shefali’s cardiac arrest.

According to a report by IANS, the Kaanta Laga star had received her monthly anti-aging injection on June 27, despite observing a religious fast that day. Reportedly, later that evening—between 10 and 11 p.m.—her health deteriorated rapidly. She began trembling and lost consciousness. She was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.

At the time of the incident, Shefali was at home with her husband Parag Tyagi, her mother, and a few others. Investigators have since seized a number of medications from the residence, including anti-aging vials, vitamin supplements, and pills related to gastric care. So far, eight statements have been recorded from family members, domestic staff, and medical professionals.

On the other hand, preliminary investigations have revealed no signs of dispute or foul play. Authorities are currently awaiting post-mortem results and lab analysis of the seized medications to determine the exact cause of death.

On June 28, reports surfaced claiming that director Deepak Kumar Mishra had been ousted from Vvan due to creative differences with Sidharth Malhotra. However, those reports turned out to be unfounded. In a conversation with Mumbai Mirror, the director set the record straight, confirming that he remains very much a part of the project.

For those unfamiliar, Vvan marks The Viral Fever’s (TVF) first big-screen venture and is being jointly produced by Balaji Telefilms. The film also stars Tamannaah Bhatia in a leading role.

Addressing the rumours, Deepak told the publication, “I don’t have any such information. Nothing has happened. This is out of the blue. I just want to state that nothing has happened. Sidharth and I are very strong. We are jamming so well and working hard on the film. It is 100% false.”

The speculation originated from a report by PeepingMoon, which claimed that Deepak and Sidharth were at odds over the film’s creative direction, leading to mounting tensions during pre-production. The report went on to suggest that the production house had brought in a new director. However, after Deepak publicly denied the claims, the publication deleted the article.

With the first schedule completed in June and the second slated to begin in August, preparations for Vvan are progressing smoothly. This update has only added to the growing excitement around the film’s release.

The latest release, Maa, has managed to put up impressive numbers in its first two days, thanks to the casting of Kajol, the horror genre, and positive word of mouth. However, the makers are unhappy with the release strategy and distribution of the film.

A source close to the film told Bollywood Hungama, “Maa has released in around 1500 screens and ideally, a film like this should have got a screen count of around 2000. After all, it has the association of Ajay Devgn and Kajol and moreover, it is a horror film, which is the flavour of the season. Sadly, that didn’t happen and also it was noticed by the makers that the shows weren’t properly allotted across cinemas. Though it’s a horror film, it also appeals to the family as evident by its title and the U/A rating. Hence, it should have got prominent showcasing in the afternoon and evening and also overall more shows but in many places, that hasn’t happened.”

The source continued, “As a result, the makers are displeased with the arrangement. They believe that if the showcasing was fair, the collections of Maa could have been higher.”

Bollywood Hungama learned that the 4:15 pm show at PVR Sangam, Andheri, Mumbai, which recorded huge occupancy on Saturday, was discontinued on Sunday in favour of Sitaare Zameen Par. Incidentally, like Maa, Sitaare Zamaeen Par is also distributed by PVR.

An exhibition source explained, “In the Dadar-Matunga-Mahim belt, which has no multiplex and consists of single screens, all cinemas either have an afternoon show of 1:00 pm and an evening show of 7:00 pm. Ideally, the showcasing should be such that a couple of cinemas should have a show at around 4:00 pm as well because a section of the moviegoing audience might prefer to watch Maa at that time. But with the strategy in place, they don’t have that choice.”

A trade expert commented on condition of anonymity, “This week is crowded as Sitaare Zameen Par has held up well. Maa has managed to perform while F1: The Movie is also recording terrific occupancy. In such instances, show-sharing issues are bound to happen. The problem becomes manifold when the distributor overcommits and then falls short of expectations and doesn’t plan the showcasing well. In this case, PVR Inox also had to accommodate their other film, Sitaare Zameen Par. Nevertheless, the makers are bound to feel shortchanged when they don’t get the desired number of shows.”

Past instances

This isn’t the first time that PVR Inox’s distribution has come under the scanner. A few days back, Bollywood Hungama reported on how Warner Bros was also upset with the multiplex chain for not giving a reasonable number of shows to F1: The Movie. A week before, we revealed that PVR Inox backed off after assuring B and C centre theatres that they would be given Sitaare Zamaeen Par. The theatres even got the publicity material from the distribution team and at the last minute, the film wasn’t given to them, leaving them in a tough spot.

In December 2024, Baby John’s advance booking was also affected as PVR Inox Pictures had asked for 60% of showcasing for the Varun Dhawan-starrer while they asked exhibitors to allot the balance 40% of the shows to Pushpa 2 – The Rule. To the single screens, they insisted that there should be 3 shows of their film and 1 show of Pushpa 2 – The Rule. The theatres didn’t agree to this demand as the Allu Arjun-starrer was doing historic business.

The acclaimed filmmaker Ritesh Batra’s is set to return to the director’s chair, six years after his last release, Photograph (2019), which starred Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Sanya Malhotra. As per a report in Mid-Day, Batra is gearing up to begin production on a new romantic drama—staying true to the gentle, emotional storytelling that has become his hallmark over the past 12 years. The project is expected to go on floors in September.

“Ritesh spent a considerable time writing this big romance. The film is in final prep mode,” an insider revealed to the publication. Known for delivering heartfelt Indian romantic dramas like The Lunchbox (2013) and Photograph (2019), as well as international narratives such as Our Souls at Night (2017) and The Sense of an Ending (2017), Batra is now set to bring a cross-cultural love story to life.

“It’s a mature romance between an Indian man and a foreigner. It’s the kind of sensitive drama about love and loss that Ritesh has come to be known for,” a source shared with Mid-Day. The cast for the project has already been finalized.

The project will mark Ritesh Batra’s reunion with Guneet Monga Kapoor, who was one of the producers of The Lunchbox. She returns as one of the producers on this international co-production.

The unprecedented success of Stree, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, laid the foundation for Maddock Films to build its own horror-comedy universe. This cinematic world already features popular names like Pankaj Tripathi, Akshay Kumar, Rashmika Mandanna, and Ayushmann Khurrana. Now, the latest buzz suggests that Ranveer Singh may also be joining this growing universe.

According to a report by Mid-Day, a source close to the production revealed, “Ranveer has been in conversations with Dinesh for a while. He was at the Maddock office last week. The makers wanted a fresh energy to drive the next chapter, and Ranveer is keen to explore the genre. The paperwork is likely to be completed soon.” The source further added, “The idea is to create an Avengers-style culmination down the road. They are discussing dates, as Ranveer will soon wrap up Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar. He has also allotted dates for Don 3. This project is expected to go on floors in early 2026.”

As of now, neither Ranveer Singh nor Maddock Films has officially confirmed or denied the report. However, the possibility of seeing Ranveer enter the horror-comedy space is exciting, especially since this would mark his first project in the genre. For those unaware, Ileana and Michael tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in 2023 and welcomed their first child, Koa Phoenix Dolan, in August of the same year.

Taking to Instagram, Ileana shared an adorable monochrome photograph showing the newborn sleeping peacefully. Along with the picture, she wrote, “Our hearts are so full.” The image also revealed the name and birthdate of their second child, Keanu Rafe Dolan, born on June 19, 2025.

Ileana had confirmed her second pregnancy in October 2024. Shefali Jariwala, best known for her appearance in the iconic music video ‘Kaanta Laga’, passed away on June 27, 2025, at the age of 42.

According to news agency ANI, "Mumbai Police received information about this at 1 a.m. Her body has been sent to Cooper Hospital for postmortem. The cause of death is not yet clear." However, the All Indian Cine Workers Association has claimed that Shefali Jariwala died due to a heart attack. Fans will have to wait for an official confirmation from the authorities or her husband, actor Parag Tyagi.

Actor-filmmaker Anshuman Jha is confirmed to be directing the upcoming sequel to his 2023 cult vigilante action film Lakadbaggha. Titled Lakadbaggha 2 – The Monkey Business, the much-anticipated follow-up takes the animal-lover vigilante universe global, and is firmly under the creative leadership of Jha himself.

It was initially rumoured that the film would be helmed by adman and filmmaker Sanjay Shetty. However, after three days of principal photography, Jha stepped in to direct the film himself — a move reminiscent of Aamir Khan’s directorial takeover of Taare Zameen Par in 2007. But unlike the well-documented tension that followed that change between Khan & Gupte, this transition has reportedly been collaborative, mutual, and grounded in mutual respect.

A source close to the production revealed, “Anshuman told the team, ‘We will only make this film once — let’s make it the best it can be, regardless of who directs.’ It was never about ego, but about clarity and vision on the animal lover vigilante universe.”

The film’s 2nd AD, Aura Chandel, shared further insight: "Anshuman has been deeply involved from day one — from casting international martial arts legends like Sunny Pang and Dan Chupong to the Indian cast members, to shaping the VFX, score, and narrative tone. Sanjay Sir and Anshuman share a mentor-mentee bond. He assisted Sanjay on ad shoots when he was just 16. There’s no bad blood — only a shared love for the project. The initial bits have been reshot, and the energy on set was incredibly focused.”

Industry insiders say that the decision stemmed from creative alignment, with Jha being most connected to the world and ethos of the Lakadbaggha franchise, which uniquely combines action with a strong message on animal welfare. Shetty has remained on the project as a creative consultant.

With this move, Jha joins the ranks of actor-directors like Clint Eastwood, Bradley Cooper, and most recently Dev Patel (Monkey Man) — artists who bring a deeply personal vision to their storytelling. As one crew member put it, “He’s not just making a film — he’s building a legacy for the voiceless.”

Maa Movie Review Synopsis: MAA is the story of a woman trying to save her daughter. Ambika (Kajol) lives in Kolkata with her hubby Shuvankar (Indraneil Sengupta) and daughter Shweta (Kherin Sharma). Shuvankar is originally from Chandarpur, West Bengal and has broken all contact with his ancestral village. Shweta is hell-bent upon visiting Chandarpur but Shuvankar refuses to listen to her plea. The same day, Shuvankar learns that his father (Aashit Chatterjee) has passed away. Shuvankar reaches Chandarpur and completes the final rites. He meets the sarpanch, Joydev (Ronit Roy), and expresses the wish to sell off his mansion. He leaves for Kolkata the same night and dies under mysterious circumstances. Ambika and Shweta are in shock and manage to move on in life. A few months later, Joydev informs Ambika that a broker will be arriving in a few days for the sale of their property. Since it was Shuvankar's last wish to get the sale done, Ambika decides to head to Chandarpur to do the needful. Shweta also joins her as she doesn't want to be left alone. Both reach Chandapur, leading to madness. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

Maa Movie Story Review: Saiwyn Quadras' story is praiseworthy. Saiwyn Quadras' screenplay is riveting for most parts but gets messy in some places. Aamil Keeyan Khan and Ajit Jagtap's dialogues are simple and also hard-hitting as required.

Vishal Furia's direction is promising. He manages to create a very eerie atmosphere and that adds a lot to the impact. The goings-on touch a chord as it's about a mother fighting for her child. As a result, there's a universal appeal. Moreover, we have seen horror films and horror comedies while MAA stands out as it's a mythological horror flick. This makes it a one-of-a-kind film. A few scenes stand out like the intro, the death of Shuvankar and Ambika and Shweta reaching Chandarpur for the first time. Post-interval, the scene in the car takes the cake. The climax fight is arresting.

On the flipside, in a few scenes, the VFX is tacky. Films like SHAITAAN [2024] and also those of Maddock Cinematic Universe have set a benchmark when it comes to CGI in this zone. While the makers get it right in some scenes, the VFX leaves a lot to be desired in the rest of the film. A few developments are plain silly and might lead to unintentional laughter. Also, the makers ideally should have ended the film at a certain point. The very last scene will put off viewers and also goes against the idea and even the title of the film. Another factor that might be seen as taboo is the crucial plot of girls getting their first periods, though one can’t deny that it’s an interesting idea.

Maa Movie Review Performances: Kajol delivers a smashing performance and proves yet again why she is one of the finest actors of our times. She is exceptionally fiery in the climax. Kherin Sharma lends able support. Ronit Roy is the surprise of the film and this is surely one of his most accomplished performances. Indraneil Sengupta is lovable in a supporting role. Jitin Gulati (Shekhar) does well but his character gets a raw deal. Gopal Singh (Bikash) and Dibyendu Bhattacharya (Bimal) are impressive while Rupkatha Chakraborty (Deepika) and Surajasikha Das (Nandini) leave a tremendous park. Aashit Chatterjee, Vibha Rani (Purohita; old) and Yaaneaa Bharadwaj (Purohita; young) are fair.

Maa movie music and other technical aspects: The song ‘Kali Shakti’ is forgettable but its visuals are striking. Amar Mohile's background score adds to the effect. The same goes for Pushkar Singh's cinematography. R P Yadav's action is a bit gory and works well. Sheetal Duggal's production design and Radhika Mehra's costumes complement the goings-on. NY VFXWaala's VFX is a mixed bag, as aforementioned. Sandeep Francis' editing is functional.

Maa Movie Review Conclusion: On the whole, MAA stands out as it’s a one-of-a-kind mythological-horror film and also rests on some fine performances, especially by Kajol and Ronit Roy. However, it suffers due to tacky VFX, inconsistent writing and an unacceptable plot point in the climax.

The mythological-horror film Maa was released today, June 27, and it has caught attention due to the genre, trailer, concept and association of Kajol. The film begins with the mention of Sujoy Ghosh and his director-daughter Diya Annapurna Ghosh under ‘Special Thanks’. It's sure to make a lot of people curious about the same as Sujoy is not associated with the project in any capacity.

This writer, too, was very curious and reached out exclusively to Sujoy Ghosh to understand the reason behind his and Diya’s mention. Sujoy, who is currently in London, explained, “My daughter Diya held the rights to the title ‘Maa’. She wanted to make a film with that title. One day, Ajay called me and expressed the desire to have the title for his film. I asked Diya about it. She agreed to part with the title. Her script is still under development and it’ll take time before her film can go on floors. On the other hand, Ajay and his team were all set to roll. Hence, we decided to live and let live (smiles).”

He added, “We’ll now think of some other title for our film.”

Sujoy Ghosh also revealed, “Diya is a fan of Ajay Devgn. We are also his fans. Diya was bowled over by the fact that Ajay Devgn asked her for the title rights. It was a true fan moment for her (laughs).”

Maa is backed by Jio Studios and Devgn Films and is directed by Vishal Furia. It also stars Ronit Roy, Kherin Sharma, Indraneil Sengupta and Dibyendu Bhattacharya in leading roles.

Diya Annapurna Ghosh, meanwhile, debuted as a director with the Zee5 flick Bob Biswas (2021) starring Abhishek Bachchan and Chitrangda Singh. It was a spin-off to the 2012 acclaimed thriller, Kahaani, which was incidentally directed by Sujoy Ghosh.

As for Sujoy Ghosh, he last directed Jaane Jaan (2023), starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vijay Varma and Jaideep Ahlawat. It dropped directly on Netflix and was one of the most-viewed films on the streaming giant that year.

Actor Aayush Sharma, who is currently recovering from two back surgeries, shared a heartfelt note on June 24 detailing his health journey and recovery process. The Ruslaan actor took to social media to open up about ignoring a persistent back injury for years and how it ultimately caught up with him while shooting for his next film.

In a candid post accompanied by photos and videos from the hospital and gym, Sharma reflected on the importance of listening to one’s body. “Life has its way of slowing you down to make sure you listen,” he wrote, adding that the pain began during a stunt for Ruslaan. Like many, he initially brushed it off. “Nothing too dramatic, so I did what most of us tend to do… ignored it, masked it, and kept going.”

However, the condition worsened during the shoot of his upcoming project. What initially seemed minor eventually impacted his ability to perform basic movements, including dancing, stunts, and stretching. “What I thought was temporary turned out to be far more serious,” he admitted.

The actor revealed he underwent two surgeries and is now officially on the road to recovery. “This phase has taught me that good health isn’t just about a six-pack — it’s about what’s happening inside. Don’t ignore the whispers your body sends you. Act early. Heal properly,” Sharma urged his followers.

He extended gratitude to his medical team, producer Sajid Qureshi, and director Kiran Korrapati for their support during the uncertain weeks of recovery. Sharma also thanked his wife Arpita Khan Sharma and their children, Ahil and Ayat, for transforming his recovery into a period of warmth and comfort.

It's a huge responsibility, but it's going to be a lot of fun,” he added.

Speculations around the casting had been circulating for a while, with names like Ranbir Kapoor and Ayushmann Khurrana also being considered. However, Ganguly himself seemed to have endorsed Rao recently, giving a strong indication of the actor’s selection.

Just a few days ago, in an interaction with PTI, Ganguly had spoken about the film’s progress. “It's going well. It will be released next December. Shooting starts in January. The pre-production, story writing, and scripting take a lot of time. Shooting doesn't take that much time — it's about three months — and then the post-production takes time,” the former cricketer said.

Rajkummar Rao’s casting comes fresh off the heels of his recent appearance in Mr. & Mrs. Mahi, a fictional sports drama centred around cricket. Currently, he is busy promoting his upcoming film Maalik, which is slated for theatrical release on July 11.

The trailer of the film caught attention due to the casting of Kajol, the horror genre, and the subject. The only concern was that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) might ask for several cuts and even after doing so, they might award an ‘A’ certificate to the film. But with this film, the CBFC has given a pleasant surprise to one and all.

As per the cut list, the CBFC has passed the film without a single audio or visual cut. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “With CBFC, one can never know. In Sitaare Zameen Par, the members asked for Michael Jackson to be replaced by ‘lovebirds’ and ‘Business Woman’ was changed to ‘Business Person’. That and the insistence on adding a quote from the Prime Minister led to a storm. Hence, the fear was that when a clean film like Sitaare Zameen Par gets such cuts, what would happen to Maa which is a horror flick.”

The source continued, “However, the CBFC’s Examining Committee didn’t cut a single shot, though a few scenes are disturbing. And that’s not all. They also allowed the film to have a U/A 16+ rating. This means that the under-18 crowd can also view this film.”

This is a rarity because most horror or supernatural films are given an ‘A’ certificate like Chhorii 2 (2025), 1920: Horrors Of The Heart (2023), Bhoot: Part One – The Haunted Ship (2020), Amavas (2019), Ghost (2019), Tumbbad (2018) etc. The only other supernatural Hindi film of recent times which didn’t get an adults-only certificate was Shaitaan (2024); like Maa, it was also backed by Devgn Films and Jio Studios. Horror comedies, meanwhile, are passed with a U/A certificate though.

Coming back to Maa, the CBFC, however, simply asked the makers to increase the disclaimer length up to readable time and also asked them to add about "anti-girl child and human sacrifice" details. Lastly, as per the rules in force since 2021, the makers were told to mention the title of the film in Hindi as well.

Once these changes were made, the censor certificate was handed to the makers of Maa on June 20. The length of the film, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 135.35 minutes, that is, 2 hours 15 minutes and 35 seconds.

Maa releases in cinemas on June 27.

After the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, the Indian film industry is treading cautiously, distancing itself from collaborations with Pakistani artists. The first major casualty was Abir Gulaal, which was set to mark Fawad Khan’s much-awaited Bollywood comeback alongside Vaani Kapoor. The film was shelved just days before its release.

Another film under scrutiny is Sardaar Ji 3, starring Diljit Dosanjh. Speculation around Pakistani actress Hania Aamir’s casting in the project was confirmed when the trailer dropped on June 23. In the same announcement, the makers clarified that the film would release exclusively overseas.

However, the move sparked widespread backlash online. Several netizens criticised both Diljit and the producers for casting a Pakistani actress amid heightened tensions between the two nations, especially following Hania Aamir’s condemnation of India’s counter-operation, Operation Sindoor. Now, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has called for a complete ban on all of Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming projects.

FWICE President B.N. Tiwari told Hindustan Times, "By working with a Pakistani actor, Diljit has hurt Indian sentiments. He has disrespected the nation’s emotions and insulted the sacrifices of our brave soldiers. His preference for Pakistani talent over Indian artists raises serious questions about his loyalty and priorities."

He added, "We are aware that the film is not being released in India. But if they plan to do so in the future, we will oppose it and call for a ban. For now, the overseas release stands. That being said, Diljit’s collaboration with a Pakistani actor is something we cannot overlook. We have demanded a strict ban on all of his upcoming films, songs, or any other projects. The producers of Sardaar Ji 3 are also included in this ban."

Sardaar Ji 3 features Neeru Bajwa, Jasmin Bajwa, Manav Vij, and others in key roles. The film is scheduled for an overseas release on June 27.

A massive fire broke out on the set of the popular television show Anupamaa, starring Rupali Ganguly, early Monday morning at Film City in Mumbai. According to reports, the blaze erupted around 5 AM and completely gutted the set before it could be doused by the fire brigade after a few hours. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Visuals of the fire were shared by news agency PTI on its X (formerly Twitter) account, showing the scale of the damage. The fire broke out before the day’s shooting was scheduled to begin around 7 AM. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) confirmed that its fire brigade received an alert at around 6 AM. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

In the aftermath of the incident, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) released a strongly worded statement condemning what it called the “ongoing negligence” in enforcing fire safety norms on sets. The association has demanded the immediate suspension of the Managing Director of Film City and the Labour Commissioner of Mumbai, alleging gross negligence and collusion that allow production houses to flout mandatory safety protocols.

AICWA President Suresh Shyamlal Gupta has also called upon Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to order a high-level judicial inquiry into the incident. In a separate post on X, AICWA further alleged the possibility of deliberate arson for insurance fraud, demanding that the probe also look into whether the fire was intentionally set by the producers or the channel to claim insurance money.

The association has gone a step further, urging authorities to file a criminal FIR against the producers, the production house, the broadcasting channel, the Film City MD, and the Labour Commissioner. It has also demanded that any production house or channel found violating fire safety norms be blacklisted immediately.

He went on to praise Shah Rukh Khan, expressing deep admiration for the superstar. He said, “I really like him. In all my interactions with him — in the five to seven times we've met — starting from Raees, where I shot with him for four to five days, and even after that, whenever we met, he always made me feel like I was the closest person to him. He’s a wonderful human being. He has some amazing qualities. Every time I’ve met him, he’s made me feel important.”

The letter further highlighted the organization’s mission to uplift specially-abled communities and expressed its alignment with the themes explored in Sitaare Zameen Par. “Declaring it tax-free in Maharashtra will ensure that it reaches a wider audience, particularly schools, colleges, NGOs, and families who will benefit from its message,” the letter added.

Directed by R. S. Prasanna and jointly produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, Sitaare Zameen Par hit theatres on June 20, 2025. Sitaare Zameen Par has managed to do the unthinkable. The advance booking wasn’t upto the mark and the makers, in a unique strategy, decided not to have shows before 11:00 am on the day of release, possibly to avoid negativity over poor occupancy in these shows. The film opened at Rs. 10 crores, which was a fair opening but below par for a star like Aamir Khan. However, the positive word of mouth along with the credibility that Aamir enjoys has finally come into play. The film jumped dramatically on Saturday. The shows of Sunday also began to get full and looking at the demand, the multiplexes had to add post-midnight shows.

The trend of having shows at 1:00 am, 2:00 am and 3:00 am is a post-pandemic phenomenon. The 2021 Diwali biggie Sooryavanshi was the first film to have such shows at night. Later, Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022), Drishyam 2 (2022), Gadar 2 (2023), Animal (2023), Pathaan (2023), Jawan (2023), Stree 2 (2024), Chhaava (2025) etc. also got shows allotted at the unearthly hour due to huge turnout. Hence, these shows became synonymous with the fact that the film is doing exceedingly well.

Some of the theatres in Mumbai which added post-midnight shows of Sitaare Zameen Par to cope with the demand are PVR Oberoi Mall Goregaon (1:00 am), PVR Lower Parel (1:00 am), Maxus Kandivali (3:00 am and 6:00 am), PVR Sangam Andheri (1:05 am), Maxus Borivali (1:30 am, 3:00 am and 6:00 am), Metro Inox (1:00 am), PVR Orion Mall Panvel (1:10 am) etc.

Sitaare Zameen Par opened at Rs. 10.70 crores while on Day 2, it is expected to earn around Rs. 20 crores. The advance booking for Sunday is super-strong and a weekend of Rs. 50 crores is now certain. The Saturday trend and demand for post-midnight shows makes it clear that it would hold strongly on Monday as well.

What is also heartening is that on the day of release, Sitaare Zameen Par was performing better mainly in elite cinemas and A centres but now the mass audience has also come out in full force. As a result, a healthy lifetime and solid trending is expected from the perfectionists’ latest release in the long run.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic bungalow, Mannat, located at Mumbai’s Bandra Bandstand, came under official scrutiny on Friday as a joint team from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the forest department conducted an inspection following a complaint alleging violations of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules during its ongoing renovation.

According to a report by ETimes, the inspection was prompted by claims that renovation work at Mannat may be in breach of regulatory permissions. A forest department official confirmed the visit, stating, “A team did carry out a site inspection as we received a complaint about renovation permissions. A report will be prepared based on the findings and submitted soon.”

Officials from the BMC’s H-West ward building and factory department and the building proposal department also accompanied the forest team. However, BMC clarified their limited involvement, noting that they were present only on request. “Our officials were accompanying the team, based on a request by the forest department. We had no other role,” a BMC official told the portal.

An officer present during the inspection added that Mannat’s staff assured the authorities that all necessary documents and permissions had been acquired and would be submitted for review. Addressing the controversy, Shah Rukh Khan’s manager has confirmed that there are no complaints and that all work is getting processed as per guidelines.

The inspection and allegations come just a day after former IPS officer and lawyer Y P Singh raised concerns about the historical and legal aspects of the property. He claimed that the original layout of Mannat included a heritage building named Villa Vienna, which was later renamed. He further alleged that in 2005, an extension building of seven floors was made behind the heritage bungalow along with an approval for 12 small independent flats which was taken from the BMC. However, after the approval, these flats were merged into a super luxury accommodation of a single family.

With the Mannat renovation now under regulatory review, the incident has sparked fresh conversations about heritage conservation, urban planning permissions, and celebrity real estate in Mumbai’s prime coastal zones. More clarity is expected once the inspection report is submitted.

Filmmaker Karan Johar, known for crafting some of Indian cinema’s most iconic love stories, is now lending his voice to a new kind of narrative—one that unfolds far from the glitter of wedding décor and dreamy romantic moments. Johar has been announced as the brand ambassador for The Bridal Retreat, a first-of-its-kind initiative that focuses not on the big day itself, but on the emotional and mental preparation that comes before and beyond it.

“I’ve spent years telling love stories through cinema—but The Bridal Retreat is about the story behind the scenes,” said Karan Johar and added, “It’s not about perfect weddings—it’s about preparing women for what comes after. This retreat offers a rare opportunity: a chance for brides to meet themselves before the world meets the bride. In a world of beautifully curated celebrations, we sometimes forget the inner transformation that marriage brings. The Bridal Retreat places that journey at the centre.”

Organised by E-Factor Experiences, The Bridal Retreat is a five-day experiential programme curated specifically for brides-to-be. It includes sessions on identity, wellness, body movement, communication, and cultural reflection, all conducted by seasoned experts from the fields of mental health, fashion, and relationship coaching. The idea is to guide women through introspection and self-awareness—helping them make mindful transitions into married life.

Samit Garg, co-founder and managing director of E-Factor Experiences, elaborates on the intent behind the programme. “The Bridal Retreat is not just a concept—it’s a commitment. Akshaye Khanna’s 2021 action-packed OTT film State of Siege: Temple Attack is all set to make its theatrical debut under a brand-new title — Akshardham: Operation Vajra Shakti. Nearly five years after its digital premiere, the high-octane drama will hit cinema halls on July 4, 2025, offering audiences a gripping, large-screen retelling of one of India’s most harrowing terror incidents.

Directed by Ken Ghosh, the film is a dramatic recreation of the 2002 terrorist attack on the Akshardham Temple in Gujarat. It captures the horror of the assault and the bravery of the National Security Guard (NSG) commandos who led the operation to neutralise the attackers. The story, inspired by real events, blends tension, patriotism, and action in equal measure.

To mark the announcement, the makers released a new poster on Instagram, which features haunting temple pillars casting the silhouette of a lone armed commando — a striking visual that evokes both reverence and courage. The caption reads, “An act of terror met with unmatched bravery, The story of courage, sacrifice, and survival comes alive in #AkshardhamOperationVajraShakti”.

Akshaye Khanna headlines the cast as Major Hanut Singh, a fierce and strategic NSG officer. The ensemble includes Gautam Rode as Major Samar, Vivek Dahiya as Captain Rohit Bagga, Akshay Oberoi as Captain Bibek, and Abhilash Chaudhary portraying the main antagonist, terrorist Iqbal. Supporting roles are essayed by Parvin Dabas, Samir Soni, Abhimanyu Singh, Mir Sarwar, Manjari Fadnis, Chandan Roy, and Shivam Bhaargava.

The film is presented by Zee Studios and produced by Abhimanyu Singh in collaboration with Contiloe Pictures. Key credits include Tejal Shetye as the director of photography, Mukesh Thakur in charge of editing, and a screenplay penned by William Borthwick and Simon Fantauzzo.

The overzealous PR machinery around certain stars often spins stories that serve their clients' agendas — even if they’re far from the truth. The latest “news” being floated for Allu Arjun fans is that he’s likely to replace Ranveer Singh in the much-anticipated big-screen adaptation of Shaktimaan, the iconic Doordarshan superhero series that aired from 1997 and ran for eight years.

Originally portrayed by Mukesh Khanna, Shaktimaan remains one of India’s most beloved homegrown superheroes. The film adaptation — currently in development — is being written and directed by actor-filmmaker Basil Joseph, who has always had Ranveer Singh in mind for the titular role.

While speculative reports of casting changes surface periodically, with the most recent rumour linking Allu Arjun to the role, a source close to the project has dismissed the chatter outright.

“No one else is doing Shaktimaan. It is Ranveer Singh and no one else. Whoever is spreading rumours of his replacement clearly has their own agenda,” the source stated.

To get clarity, I reached out directly to Basil Joseph, who firmly confirmed, “Shaktimaan will be made only with Ranveer Singh.”

Elio Movie Review Synopsis: ELIO is the story of a young man who accidentally becomes the Ambassador of Earth. Elio Solis (Yonas Kibreab) is an orphan. He stays with his maternal aunt, Olga (Zoe Saldaña), who works on a military base observing space debris. Elio has withdrawn into a shell due to the death of his parents. But a visit to a space museum and learning about the possibility of extra-terrestrial beings gets him excited. The story moves a few years ahead. Elio is now doing better and his life's mission is to be captured by aliens! He uses a ham radio to try to communicate but to no avail. At his aunt's workplace, he overhears from a conspiracy theorist named Gunther Melmac (Brendan Hunt) that aliens might exist. He uses Melmac's device to send a message to the aliens, leading to a power outage in the facility. Olga almost loses her job and fed up with Elio's behaviour, she sends him to a camp. At the camp, Elio is confronted by bullies. Suddenly, an alien ship appears and takes him away, much to his delight. Elio soon arrives at the Communiverse, a place where aliens of all kinds bring knowledge from their own worlds to share with others. Elio realizes that they received the message that he sent from Melmac's device. They assume that he's the Ambassador of the Earth, not realizing that he's just a kid. Meanwhile, Elio decides to solve a conflict between Communiverse and the dangerous ruler of Hylurg, Grigon (Brad Garrett). What happens next forms the rest of the film.

Elio Movie Story Review: Madeline Sharafian, Domee Shi, Adrian Molina and Julia Cho's story is out of the box. Julia Cho, Mark Hammer and Mike Jones' screenplay is captivating but has its share of minor blemishes. The dialogues are entertaining.

Madeline Sharafian, Domee Shi and Adrian Molina's direction is decent. It is a relatable fare as it touches upon depression, bullying, etc, too. On the other hand, a few scenes are amusing like Elio dying to get abducted by the aliens, Elio’s duplicate on Earth, Elio using Glordon (Remy Edgerly) as a 'bargaining chip'. The finale is engaging.

On the flipside, the transformation of Elio from an introverted depressed kid to one chasing aliens is sudden for the viewers, even though the transformation happens over the years in the film. The humour is limited; a film like this ideally should have had laugh-out-loud scenes. The whole idea of Elio reaching Communiverse and other space-related aspects can be difficult to comprehend for adults and more so for kids, the target audience. The fact that there are three directors shows - a few scenes seem a bit disjointed and are executed differently from the rest of the scenes. Lastly, the buzz is pretty limited in India.

Elio Movie Review Performances: The voiceovers that truly work big time are those of Yonas Kibreab and Remy Edgerly. Brad Garrett comes next followed by Zoe Saldaña. Brendan Hunt, Jameela Jamil (Questa), Shirley Henderson (OOOOO) and Jake Getman (Caleb) also do well.

Elio movie music and other technical aspects: Rob Simonsen's music has a Disney feel. Derek Williams and Jordan Rempel's cinematography is spectacular. Harley Jessup's production design is top-notch. The animation matches global standards, as expected. Anna Wolitzky and Steve Bloom's editing is too fast-paced.

Elio Movie Review Conclusion: On the whole, ELIO is a touching and entertaining saga. However, it suffers due to narrative and pacing issues and a lack of sufficient humour. At the box office, it’ll face tough competition from another family-friendly film, SITAARE ZAMEEN PAR.

Detective Sherdil Movie Review Synopsis: DETECTIVE SHERDIL is the story of a clever officer solving a tricky case. Sherdil (Diljit Dosanjh) is a detective who works in Budapest, Hungary. Commissioner Barry Kane (Mike Capozzola) assigns him the case of the murder of billionaire Pankaj Bhatti (Boman Irani). Pankaj was killed on a deserted highway by an assassin. After putting a bullet in his head, the assassin bombed the car. The suspects are the family members - wife Rajeshwari (Ratna Pathak Shah), son Angad (Sumeet Vyas), foreigner daughter-in-law Elizabeth (Sarah Barlondo) and deaf-and-mute daughter Shanti (Banita Sandhu). Shanti's boyfriend Purvak (Arjun Tanwar), also deaf-and-mute, is on the run and is a prime suspect. This is especially because Pankaj has willed 80% of his wealth and assets to Purvak. The remaining 20% was divided between a dog, named Rabbit, and Rajeshwari's brother Bodhi (Chunky Panday). Not just Purvak but Pankaj's driver Jaipal (Mukesh Bhatt) is also missing. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

Detective Sherdil Movie Story Review: Ravi Chhabriya and Ali Abbas Zafar's story could have made for a promising murder mystery. Sagar Bajaj and Ali Abbas Zafar's screenplay is decent in some places. However, there are too many loopholes and not enough has been done to cover them. Sagar Bajaj and Ali Abbas Zafar's dialogues and Suraj Gianani's voiceover dialogues are quirky. However, some dialogues, supposed to be cool, don’t have the desired impact.

Ravi Chhabriya's direction is okay. There are a lot of characters and also back-and-forth narrative. But Ravi ensures that the narrative doesn’t become confusing. He makes good use of the location and has fleshed out the character of Sherdil nicely. A few scenes are quite amusing like Natasha (Diana Penty) being shown as talking in Diljit’s voice, Pankaj’s pen being mentioned as that from 3 IDIOTS [2009], etc. The finale is also unpredictable.

On the flipside, the beginning 5 minutes are incoherent and badly edited. Pankaj is shown to be Europe’s most successful businessman. But one doesn’t get that feeling, especially the way his murder investigation is handled. The detectives don’t seem to be under any pressure and are taking their time in finding the killer. When they are told that Bodhi is absent, the police should have ideally located him immediately. But they don’t and instead, wait for him to come, at his convenience! Shockingly, there’s no post-mortem done, it seems; if it was, a lot of aspects would have got clearer about the bullet used. The entire bit of Purvak changing house every 21 days and the manner in which Sherdil is able to find his residence is quite far-fetched and even silly. There are other issues too. Why is Sherdil unhappy to know that Natasha will be joining him in the investigation? Did they date each other? Or did they have any quarrel while working on an earlier case? The audience never gets an answer to these questions.

Detective Sherdil Movie Review Performances: The film has an ensemble cast. Diljit Dosanjh is the saving grace. His performance and his subtle antics ensure that the film is watchable right until the end. Diana Penty plays the role of the no-nonsense cop with panache. Boman Irani, Ratna Pathak Shah and Sumeet Vyas are aptly cast. Banita Sandhu leaves a huge mark. Arjun Tanwar makes a confident debut. Chunky Panday does fine but is let down by the writing. Mikhail (Detective Danny) and Kashmira Irani Saxena (Falak) make their presence felt. Mukesh Bhatt, Mike Capozzola, Sarah Barlondo and Olivia Stewart (Detective Olivia) are fair.

Detective Sherdil movie music and other technical aspects: DETECTIVE SHERDIL is a song-less film. One track is added during the end credits but it's forgettable. Joel Crasto's background score is catchy, especially the mouth organ theme. Marcin Laskawiec's cinematography is appropriate. Malvika Bajaj's costumes are glamorous while Amit Sharma, Tejas Amit Korgaonkar and Ankita Dhar's production design is rich. Ravi Chhabriya's editing is bad in the initial scenes but is fine and even stylish later on.

Detective Sherdil Movie Review Conclusion: On the whole, DETECTIVE SHERDIL fails to entice due to faulty script and silly developments. The performance of Diljit Dosanjh and a few amusing moments make the film watchable to an extent.
