The Salman Khan-starrer Sikandar has failed to entice the viewers as intended. The word of mouth is very poor and though there was growth on the second day of release, the trend has made it clear that the film will suffer a fall once the holiday season gets over. Realizing this aspect, the theatres have begun to reduce the showcasing of Sikandar and replace its shows with successful holdover releases.

There were reports that Sikandar’s shows were being cancelled due to no audience. A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “We didn’t find any instance of the show getting cancelled in Mumbai. There were shows where the number of viewers was in single digits but on the first two days, no show got cancelled due to no audience. However, the same happened in Surat, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Indore etc., especially in areas where there was little or no Eid effect.”

Kiritbhai T Vaghasia, who runs The Friday Cinema multiplex in Surat, said, “Not a single ticket was sold for the 9:00 am and 10:00 am shows on Monday. I was hoping there would be more audience for this film on Eid. Instead, we sold more tickets on Sunday, the day of the release. I guess the word of mouth spread faster, resulting in such dismal numbers on Monday.”

Due to such a response to Sikandar in his cinema hall, he had to reduce the number of shows of Sikandar. Kirtibhai revealed, “I replaced two-night shows with All The Best Pandya and Umbarro. Both these Gujarati films are getting decent footfalls. Surprisingly, Umbarro is in its ninth week and is still attracting an audience.”

All The Best Pandya, which was released on March 14, has been running successfully across Gujarat and also Mumbai. In Inox Raghuleela Kandivali in Mumbai, Sikandar’s 9:30 pm show has been replaced from April 1 with the Gujarati movie. From April 2, the cinema hall has removed 5:30 pm of the Salman Khan film and will play Umbarro instead.

Mohanlal’s L2 Empuraan is also getting steady footfalls in several cinemas. In Cinepolis Seawoods and PVR Orion Mall Panvel, the 9:40 pm and 5:30 pm shows of Sikandar were axed and replaced with this Malayalam film. Meanwhile, in South Mumbai’s elite Inox Nariman Point and Metro Inox, the John Abraham-starrer The Diplomat will be played at 8:00 pm and 8:30 pm respectively instead of Sikandar.

Amid all these cancellations and replacements, Mumbai’s iconic Gaiety-Galaxy or G7 multiplex stands as an exception. Since Sunday, March 30, Sikandar has been playing in its two biggest cinema halls – the 991-seater Gaiety and 818-seater Galaxy. From March 31, the Salman Khan-starrer’s shows were also accommodated in the 105-seater Gossip. L2 Empuraan’s Hindi version was earlier playing in both Gossip as well as the 255-seater Gemini. The Mohanlal film will now be showcased only in Gemini.

Despite so many shows, Sikandar still managed to run house-full on the day of Eid in this cinema complex. Salman Khan’s films have always worked big time in Gaiety-Galaxy but for Sikandar to do so well, despite its underperformance in other areas, once again indicates that Salman Khan’s stardom is intact, especially among the mass audience.

The news of the re-release of Andaz Apna Apna (1994) led to a lot of excitement for the viewers. The film has an enviable fan following and moreover, the presence of superstars Salman Khan and Aamir Khan has added to the excitement of watching them again on the big screen, that too in comic roles. During the 30th anniversary of the film in November 2024, the family of the late producer Vinay Sinha announced the plan to re-release in the summer of 2025. And now, it has come to light that the film is all set to arrive on the big screen next month, that is, April 25.

While talking to The Times of India, the children of Vinay Sinha, that is, Namrata, Priti Sinha and Amod Sinha, unveiled the release date. They also excitedly reacted to the recent statements of Salman Khan and Aamir Khan on Andaz Apna Apna sequel. They said, “Recently, Aamir bhai mentioned that Salman sir and he are keen on doing the Andaz Apna Apna sequel. We are thrilled that they both are excited and in light of this, we will start talks with them right after the re-release of Andaz Apna Apna on April 25.”

They also added, “Talks with Rajkumar Santoshi ji have been ongoing for years. It also includes (those) during our father producer Vinay Kumar Sinha’s lifetime. However, nothing concrete has been finalized with him till now. We will make an official announcement as soon as discussions with the actors and director are complete and a strong script is locked.”

Andaz Apna Apna also starred Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Shakti Kapoor and others. The re-release trailer will arrive tomorrow, April 1.

With Andaz Apna Apna set for release on April 25, it’ll thus clash with Emraan Hashmi’s intense action thriller, Ground Zero. It is backed by Excel Entertainment.

Another significant release on the same day is Ne Zha 2. The Chinese film has broken all records and has collected $2 billion in the home market alone. Since it has done well even in non-Chinese territories overseas, there’s some hope from its India release as well.

Actor Vidyut Jammwal has voiced his support for stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, who recently faced legal action over his satirical remarks about Maharashtra’s political situation. Taking to social media, Jammwal shared a thought-provoking post referencing the Bhagavad Gita and questioning the selective outrage against comedians while figures like Kamaal R Khan (KRK), known for his derogatory remarks about India and women, continue unchecked.

Along with sharing a video featuring Kunal Kamra and some unfavourable comments made by Kamaal R Khan in the past, Vidyut Jammwal wrote: “GITA CHAPTER 2 VERSE 31 - “स्वधर्ममपि चावेक्ष्य न विकम्पितुमर्हसि। धर्म्याद्धि युद्धाच्छ्रेयोऽन्यत् क्षत्रियस्य न विद्यते॥” MEANING - Kshatriya, you should not waver, for there is nothing more auspicious for a warrior than a “RIGHTEOUS WAR.” Here is man, taking refuge out of the country, drawing attention by spewing venom against the country and even worse, our women. No one stops to question his intent or mobilises to bring him down. But we will take a stand up comedian to task- for evoking strong emotions because of his act. Do we uphold the rights of Politicians over our Nation and our Women?”

The post gained significant traction, with several celebrities rallying behind Jammwal’s stance. Producer Ektaa R Kapoor commented, “Those who follow him enable him! Good on uuuuuuuu for calling him out.” Singer Mansi Scott wrote, “Well said Vidyut Jammwal,” while actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee responded with hands-up emojis. Actress Amrita Arora Ladak recently testified as a witness in the ongoing case against actor Saif Ali Khan, her husband Shakeel Ladak, and their friend Bilal Amrohi. The case pertains to a 2012 altercation at a five-star hotel, where businessman Iqbal Sharma accused the trio of assaulting him and his brother-in-law, Raman Patel.

Speaking to NDTV, Amrita detailed the events of that night, asserting that the incident began when an unknown individual aggressively confronted their group. “We saw someone barging into our enclosure and, in a very loud, aggressive voice, told us to shut up and keep quiet. We all got shocked at what was happening,” she stated. Amrita further claimed that Saif Ali Khan responded to the situation with an apology, standing up immediately to diffuse the tension.

The altercation reportedly involved Sharma accusing Saif and his friends of behaving aggressively and abusing him. He further alleged that the actor punched him, breaking his nose, and also attacked his brother-in-law Raman Patel. The businessman lodged a police complaint soon after the incident, leading to charges of assault and criminal intimidation against Saif and his associates.

However, Saif Ali Khan has consistently maintained that he acted in self-defence. According to him, the altercation escalated only after Sharma allegedly made derogatory remarks about the women in the group, which included Kareena Kapoor Khan, Malaika Arora, and Amrita Arora. The actor claimed that Sharma’s comments were offensive, and he responded in their defense.

The case has been ongoing for over a decade, with multiple court hearings. Amrita’s testimony supports Saif’s version of events, emphasizing that the situation began with Sharma’s aggressive approach. The court is expected to review witness statements before arriving at a final verdict. Just hours before its release, the AR Murugadoss-directed action thriller surfaced on piracy sites. Infamous platforms like Tamilrockers, Movierulz, Filmyzilla, and various Telegram groups have made the full movie available for illegal download and streaming.

Despite strict anti-piracy laws and ongoing crackdowns, piracy remains a major concern for Bollywood. In Sikandar's case, the leak likely stemmed from camcorder recordings in theatres, which were quickly enhanced to HD quality and uploaded within hours.

Meanwhile, celebrations are in full swing for Salman Khan’s Eid release, with fans lining up in large numbers outside theatres to experience the film on the big screen. Videos from around the world captured fans celebrating Sikandar's release—dancing inside theatres, cutting cakes, and cheering for ‘Bhaijaan’ Salman Khan – are doing the rounds.

Directed by A.R. Murugadoss, Sikandar features a powerhouse ensemble, including Rashmika Mandanna, Sathyaraj, Kajal Aggarwal, and Sharman Joshi, alongside Salman Khan.

SIKANDAR’s attempt to deliver a powerful social message is diluted by a weak script Movie Review: SIKANDAR attempts to deliver a powerful social message

Sikandar Movie Review Synopsis: SIKANDAR is the story of a man with a heart of gold. Sanjay Rathod (Salman Khan) belongs to the royal family of Rajkot. He's happily married to Saisri (Rashmika Mandanna). While flying to Rajkot from Mumbai, Sanjay beats up a man, Arjun (Prateik Babbar) for outraging the modesty of a woman (Neha Iyer). Arjun turns out to be the son of the Home Minister (Sathyaraj). The home minister seethes with rage and deploys a cop, Prakash (Kishore), to nab Sanjay and give him a hard time. Prakash's attempts are futile as Sanjay is too popular in Rajkot thanks to his humanitarian efforts. Hence, arresting him is next to impossible. Meanwhile, Sanjay's life takes a shocking turn, and he is compelled to move to Mumbai. As luck would have it, it is also the turf of the home minister, leading to madness and chaos. What happens next forms the rest of the film. 

Sikandar Movie Story Review: A. R. Murugadoss' story (story discussion team: G Jagannathan, P Kinslin, N S Ponkumar) holds much promise. A. R. Murugadoss' screenplay fails to do justice to this superb plot. Except for a few well-etched scenes, the rest of the script is full of loopholes and cinematic liberties. A R Murugadoss' dialogues (additional dialogues by Rajat Aroraa, Abbas Dalal, Hussain Dalal) are substandard. A film like this needed to have many more hard-hitting and seeti-maar dialogues.

A R Murugadoss' direction is shockingly disappointing, given his great body of work. He has tried his best to pepper the narrative with loads of crowd-pleasing action and dramatic scenes. There's also an unexpected moment in the first 45 minutes which will astonish moviegoers. Also, what works the best is Salman Khan’s entry scene. It is terrific, and it's not there just for the heck of it; it’s also a part of the story.

But after a great start, the film goes downhill. Except for the scene at the hospital and the scene at Vaidehi’s (Kajal Aggarwal) house, the rest of the scenes don't leave the desired impact. The narrative also seems haphazard; it gives a feeling that several scenes have been chopped off, too badly. Certain developments don’t make sense. The scene where Arjun asks the cameraman to pan the camera on Sanjay defies logic. In another scene, the kid is sitting in the open without his shirt when he has just gotten his lung transplant done. The slum dwellers were poor but they were also benevolent and would not allow a sick child to roam around in such a manner, that too in a polluted environment. The film is replete with such sequences which will be panned by the audience. On top of it, the villain track is weak. A film like this ought to have many more confrontational scenes between the hero and the villain.

Sikandar Movie Review Performances: Salman Khan looks dashing and plays a role which is in sync with his ‘Being Human’ image. As a result, his fans will surely lap it up. However, he seems stiff in a few scenes and doesn’t seem to have given his hundred percent. Rashmika Mandanna looks ravishing and is the soul of the film. Sadly, her screen time is limited. Sharman Joshi (Amar), Kishore, and Jatin Sarna (De Niro) lend able support. Sathyaraj fails to impress. Prateik Smita Patil is over the top, but it works for his character. Kajal Aggarwal (Vaidehi) is decent, but her track should have been simplified. Anjini Dhawan (Nisha) and Sulbha Arya (Savithri) are hardly there. Sanjay Kapoor (Sriram) and Nawab Shah (Virat Bakshi) are wasted, while Ayan Khan (Kamaruddin) is cute. Neha Iyer, Dhanya Balakrishna (female staffer in Sikandar’s team), Vishal Vashishtha (Vaidehi’s husband), Vijayant Kohli (Sudarshan), and Rajesh Jhaveri (Seshadri; Vaidehi’s father-in-law) are fair. 

Sikandar movie music and other technical aspects: Pritam's music does have a shelf life. 'Zohra Jabeen' is the best of the lot as it is catchy and fan-pleasing. The title song is okay. 'Sikandar Naache', 'Bam Bam Bhole', 'Hum Aapke' and 'Taikhaane Mein' don’t impress. Santhosh Narayan's background score is much better and exhilarating.

S Thirunavukarasu's cinematography is functional. RedChillies.VFX's VFX is below par. Kevin Kumar's action is superb. In a rare instance, he has been credited as one would mention a debutant actor. Amit Ray and Subrata Chakraborty's production design is tacky. Alvira Khan Agnihotri's costumes for Salman Khan are stylish. Meagan Concessio's costumes for Rashmika Mandanna are glamorous, but the one she wears in her entry scene is awkward. Puneet Jain's costumes for the rest of the actors are functional. Vivek Harshan's editing is not up to the mark. 

Sikandar Movie Review Conclusion: On the whole, SIKANDAR attempts to deliver a powerful social message and showcases Salman Khan in a role that’s sure to resonate with his fanbase. However, the impact is diluted by a weak script and erratic direction. At the box office, the film will initially benefit from the Eid holiday and the lack of competition, but sustaining momentum in the long run will be a tough challenge.

Last week, The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officially filed a closure report in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, concluding that no evidence of murder was found. The agency’s findings aligned with AIIMS' forensic assessment that the actor’s death on June 14, 2020, was by suicide, dismissing any foul play.

Following the closure report, Rajya Sabha MP and media baron Subhash Chandra publicly addressed the media's role in the case. In a statement, he remarked, "In Sushant Rajput murder case, CBI has filed closure report. I believe it is due to lack of credible evidence. No scope for ambiguity, hence it means no case is made out."

Black Bag Movie Review Synopsis: BLACK BAG is the story of an intelligent agent and his dangerous game while trying to find a traitor. British intelligence officer George Woodhouse (Michael Fassbender) investigates the leak of a top-secret software program code-named Severus. The list of possible suspects includes his wife Kathryn (Cate Blanchett), who is also an intelligence officer. He invites the other four suspects, also spies, to his house for dinner. These four suspects are satellite imagery specialist Clarissa (Marisa Abela), agency psychiatrist Zoe (Naomie Harris) and managing agents Freddie (Tom Burke) and James (Regé-Jean Page). Their food is drugged to lower their inhibitions. A lot of secrets tumble out during dinner. George continues to investigate all of them and feels extremely suspicious of his wife, especially when she leaves for Zurich for an undisclosed mission. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

Black Bag Movie Story Review: David Koepp has written a story, which is based in the spy world but is unlike the other films made in this space. David Koepp's screenplay is very confusing and also doesn't involve viewers completely. David Koepp's dialogues are conversational.

Steven Soderbergh's direction is not as engaging as intended. To give credit where it's due, he keeps the duration in check (94 minutes) and also assembles a talented star cast. The film begins on an intriguing note. The dinner table scene, interestingly, gives a deja vu of KHEL KHEL MEIN [2024] though soon, things take an unexpected turn.

After this dramatic sequence, the film goes downhill. There's so much happening that if one doesn't pay attention for a second, one will fail to understand the goings-on. The narrative style is also complex and it becomes tedious after a point to join the dots and remember the events and the intentions of the characters. The climax arrests attention but is not impactful enough. Lastly, the release period is also questionable.

Black Bag Movie Review Performances: Michael Fassbender delivers a subtle performance and it goes in favour of his sharp-minded and clinical character. Cate Blanchett, as expected, is very impressive. Marisa Abela is the surprise of the film and she dominates the other veteran actors in several scenes. Tom Burke's performance stands out due to his character. Naomie Harris and Regé-Jean Page lend able support. Gustaf Skarsgård (Meacham) and Pierce Brosnan (Arthur Stieglitz) leave a mark.

Black Bag movie music and other technical aspects: David Holmes' music has a mysterious and dramatic feel and goes well with the theme of the film. Peter Andrews' cinematography is appropriate.

Philip Messina's production design is rich while Ellen Mirojnick's costumes are appealing. Mary Ann Bernard's editing is slick.

Black Bag Movie Review Conclusion: On the whole, BLACK BAG rests on the strength of a talented star cast with a respected writer and director at the helm. However, the film suffers considerably due to its confusing narrative, which takes away from its overall impact. While it was released worldwide on March 14, a day-and-date release in India would have been ideal. Releasing it during the SIKANDAR and L2 EMPURAAN week is a miscalculation that will likely dent its box office prospects.

Shreyas Talpade, along with 14 others, has been implicated in a major fraud case in Uttar Pradesh's Mahoba district. The allegations involve duping villagers out of crores of rupees through a deceptive chit fund scheme.

The accused were allegedly associated with 'The Loni Urban Multistate Credit and Thrift Cooperative Society Limited,' a company that targeted rural investors with promises of high returns. Agents of the company reportedly assured villagers that their investments would double in a short period, leading hundreds to invest substantial amounts. However, after collecting crores from unsuspecting villagers, the company abruptly ceased operations and its representatives disappeared.

The fraudulent activities had been ongoing in Mahoba for nearly a decade before coming under legal scrutiny. Authorities have registered a case at the Srinagar police station, initiating an investigation to uncover the full extent of the scam. Further actions will be determined based on the findings of this probe.

This incident adds to Talpade's legal troubles. In February, an FIR was filed against him and veteran actor Alok Nath in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly defrauding investors of over ₹9 crore. The case was lodged at Gomti Nagar Police Station in Lucknow. Additionally, both actors, along with others, were implicated in a multi-level marketing scam in Sonipat, Haryana.

The Loni Urban Multi-State Credit and Thrift Cooperative Society has been under scrutiny for similar fraudulent activities in other regions. In Uttarakhand, the society reportedly operated 35 unauthorized branches, defrauding investors of approximately ₹92 crore by promising high returns. The Uttarakhand Police have arrested five individuals in connection with this scheme.

As investigations continue, authorities are working to bring justice to the victims and unravel the complexities of these fraudulent operations.

Salman Khan spoke his heart out during the group interaction held at a five-star hotel in Mumbai as part of promotions of Sikandar. Towards the end of the interview, he was asked about the recent decision by the government of Karnataka to have a cap of Rs. 200 on movie tickets.

Salman Khan said, “I really want that there’s a price cap on movie tickets. I also feel that there should be capping on the prices of popcorn and cold drinks. The producer should also get a share out of it.”

He also sighed over the fact that India is an under-screened market, “We are a minimum 20,000 + theatres short in our country. We are releasing our films in just 6000 screens. We were shooting for Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) in Mandawa, Rajasthan, from where 100 billionaires have come out. There’s not a single theatre in that town. You have to drive 2 ½ drive to see a film. Hence, there’s a shortage of cinema halls.”

When asked how he defines mass cinema, Salman Khan made an important comment, “The separation between mass and class cinema has gone away. Now, even in multiplexes, people have started whistling. The same happens in Gaiety-Galaxy.”

He continued, “People pay a huge amount and buy tickets in black. Ideally, they should be paying the same amount – Rs. 1500 or Rs. 2000 – and watch the film in a multiplex. You might get maybe 3 tickets in that amount. But they say ‘Nahin, humko toh Gaiety mein hi film dekhni hai’!”

The superstar continued, “Even PVR Inox waale prefer to watch a film in a Gaiety-Galaxy. They enjoy the experience there. They watch the film again as they are unable to understand (due to the whistles and noise).”

Sikandar releases in cinemas on March 30.

Santosh, set in a fictional north Indian town, follows the journey of a young widow (played by Shahana Goswami) who joins the police force and investigates the murder of a Dalit girl. The film doesn’t shy away from exposing systemic issues like police brutality, sexual violence against lower-caste women, and institutional biases such as Islamophobia. While these themes earned Santosh critical acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival and a nomination as the UK’s official entry for the 2025 Oscars in the International Feature category, they have proven too provocative for the CBFC.

According to reports, the CBFC demanded extensive cuts to the film, citing concerns over its “negative portrayal” of the Indian police force. Director Sandhya Suri revealed that the suggested edits spanned several pages and targeted core elements of the narrative, making them “impossible” to implement without compromising the film’s integrity. Santosh director REACTS to CBFC blocking the film In an interview with The Guardian, Suri said, “It was important to me that the film is released in India, so I did try to figure out if there was a way to make it work. But in the end, it was just too difficult to make those cuts and have a film that still made sense, let alone stayed true to its vision. I don’t feel my film glorifies violence in a way that many other films focusing on the police have done. There’s nothing sensationalist about it.”

For now, Indian audiences hoping to see Santosh in theaters may be out of luck.

The summer of 2024 was a boring one for moviegoers as very few films made it to cinemas in April and May. Many feared that the same might happen in 2025 as well, especially in the month of May. As of now, only Ajay Devgn-starrer Raid 2 has been scheduled for a release, on May 1. But if the buzz in the trade circles is to be believed, two more films might try their luck in cinemas this month.

A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “Aamir Khan is expected to bring his highly awaited film Sitaare Zameen Par to cinemas on May 30. Earlier, he was hoping to release it in June but he realized that May 30 works better. Personally, this date is apt as IPL will end on Sunday, March 25.”

Sitaare Zameen Par is directed by R S Prasanna of Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017) fame and also stars Genelia Deshmukh.

Meanwhile, sources also said that Dinesh Vijan, of Maddock Films, is thinking of pushing the release of the romcom Bhool Chuk Maaf from April 10 to May 9.

The trade source said, “April 10 has Sunny Deol’s Jaat and Phule up for release. Salman Khan’s Sikandar will release on March 30 while Akshay Kumar’s Kesari Chapter 2 is scheduled to arrive on the big screen on April 18. A few days back, Excel Entertainment announced that Emraan Hashmi-starrer Ground Zero will be released on April 25. In such a scenario, Bhool Chuk Maaf might not get breathing space and it makes sense to come on May 9, a vacant slot.”

An industry expert remarked, “It's also a lucky release week for Rajkummar Rao. Last year, Srikanth (2024) released at the same time and performed beyond expectations.”

Besides Rajkummar Rao, Bhool Chuk Maaf also stars Wamiqa Gabbi and rests on a novel and funny plot. Its teaser was attached with the prints of Chhaava, which was also produced by Maddock Films.

The trade source made it clear, “The makers of both Sitaare Zameen Par and Bhool Chuk Maaf have not taken the final decision yet. But these two dates are seriously being considered by them. An announcement is expected soon.”

Lastly, another promising film to look forward to in May is Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, starring Tom Cruise. It will arrive in theatres on May 23. In other words, if the aforementioned films manage to make it on the said dates, the months of April and May will be a treat for the moviegoers.

The transactions, registered in March 2025, reflect a significant appreciation in property value, as per documents reviewed by Square Yards on the website of the Inspector General of Registration (IGR) Maharashtra.

Details of the Property Transactions Located in Borivali, a prime suburban area known for its proximity to Sanjay Gandhi National Park and Kanheri Caves, Oberoi Sky City is a premium residential project by Oberoi Realty. Spread across 25 acres, the project offers high-end apartments, including 3BHK, 3BHK+Studio, and Duplex configurations.

According to property registration documents, Akshay Kumar sold an apartment for Rs. 5.35 crore, which he originally purchased in November 2017 for Rs. 2.82 crore—an 89% appreciation. The property has a carpet area of 100.34 sq. m (1,080 sq. ft) and incurred a stamp duty of Rs. 32.1 lakh and a registration fee of Rs. 30,000. The second apartment sale, an adjoining apartment in the same project was sold for Rs. 1.25 crore. Purchased in 2017 for Rs. 67.19 lakh, it marked an 86% appreciation. The unit has a carpet area of 23.45 sq. m (252 sq. ft), and the transaction incurred stamp duty of Rs. 7.5 lakh and a registration fee of ₹30,000.

Rising Real Estate Activity in Oberoi Sky City Oberoi Sky City has witnessed strong market activity in the past year. According to Square Yards, between March 2024 and February 2025, the project recorded 208 sale registrations, accumulating a total transaction value of Rs. 818 crore. The CBI’s closure report, submitted after four years of investigation, concluded that there was no evidence of foul play in the tragic demise of the late actor, who was found dead in his Mumbai apartment in June 2020 at the age of 34. The news has relieved the Chakraborty family, who have endured intense scrutiny and legal battles since the incident.

Showik Chakraborty Speaks Out Breaking his silence for the first time since the CBI’s decision, Showik Chakraborty took to Instagram on Saturday evening to express his emotions. Posting an old video featuring himself and his sister Rhea, Showik captioned it with the poignant phrase "Satyameva Jayate" – meaning "Truth alone triumphs" – accompanied by a folded hands emoji. Meanwhile, Rhea Chakraborty has yet to make an official statement.

The road to this moment has been tumultuous for the Chakraborty family. Following Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, Rhea and Showik found themselves at the center of multiple investigations. In September 2020, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested the siblings in a drugs-related case linked to Rajput’s death. Rhea spent 27 days in judicial custody before being granted bail, while Showik faced a longer period of incarceration.

Rhea Chakraborty’s Lawyer’s Statement Rhea’s lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, addressed the CBI’s closure of the case in a statement that shed light on the harrowing experiences endured by his client and her family. “Rhea was jailed for 27 days despite no fault of her own. I salute her and her family for having kept silent and yet suffered the inhuman treatment they were meted out,” Maneshinde said. He revealed that the case came to him through close friends, including defense personnel with whom he studied at Sainik School, and lauded the resilience of Rhea’s family and his legal team in the face of adversity. “Both Rhea’s family, my team, and I were hounded and threatened with danger to our lives. I must say nothing deterred us from carrying out our legal duties,” he added.

The CBI’s decision marks the end of a nearly five-year-long saga that gripped the nation, sparked debates about mental health, justice, and media trials, and left an indelible mark on those involved.

Sooraj Barjatya had an interesting conversation with Mayank Shekhar of Mid-Day, during which he spoke about his films, his journey and also that of his production house, Rajshri Productions, started by his grandfather, Tarachand Barjatya. The films of Sooraj and also his recently released maiden web series, Bada Naam Karenge, don’t have a villain. Action also needs to be minimal, if required. Sooraj Barjatya spoke about this and also that his family follows a rule book: There can't be a (conventional) villain, and the number of punches cannot exceed 14!

Sooraj Barjatya revealed, “My father (Rajkumar Barjatya) and grandfather knew that the villain is a must. But it's best if the villain can be a circumstance so that we don’t have too much violence. In Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994), the death of the bhabhi is a circumstance. In Maine Pyar Kiya (1987), bechare ke note bheeg jaate hai. That is the circumstance. In Uunchai (2022), the protagonists want to climb the mountain and, in their case, age is a circumstance.”

As for the 14-punches rule, Sooraj said, “You know how action directors are? They can go on and on (laughs). They’ll be like ‘Aise maarenge’. They’ll go on and on until you stop them from fighting. Hence, we came up with this idea that ’14 punches ka fight chahiye; bas itna hi maarenge’!”

He further explained, “The idea was that the families should be able to see the film together. That used to be the core. At times, we have gone out and broken these rules. Somehow, they have not worked, and we keep coming up. The films that have worked for us are the ones that have stuck to these values.”

Over four years after taking over the investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted a closure report in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, sources revealed on Saturday.

Sushant Singh Rajput, 34, was discovered dead in his Mumbai Bandra apartment on June 14, 2020. His passing stunned numerous fans and led to various conspiracy theories, including claims of black magic involvement, which triggered an inquiry.

Officials confirmed that the closure report was filed for two cases: the accusations made by Sushant Rajput's father against his then-girlfriend and actress Rhea Chakraborty, and Ms. Chakraborty's claims against Sushant's family.

The CBI took over the investigation from the Bihar Police in August 2020. After more than four years of inquiry, sources said the agency found no evidence that anyone had caused Sushant Rajput's death, clearing Ms. Chakraborty and her family of any wrongdoing. The CBI absolved all individuals named in the two FIRs filed in the case, including Ms. Chakraborty, her parents, and her brother.

A forensic team from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) had also concluded that Sushant Rajput's death was not a murder, but rather a case of suicide.

Following Sushant Rajput's death, the Bihar Police filed a case of abetment to suicide based on a complaint lodged by his father, KK Singh, in Patna. The actor's family accused Ms. Chakraborty of mentally tormenting him, administering medication to him, exploiting him financially, and being involved in his death.

When the CBI assumed control of the investigation, the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) was instructed to conduct a forensic examination of the crime scene. A laptop, hard drives, a Canon camera, and two mobile phones were confiscated and thoroughly analyzed.

Ms. Chakraborty was one of more than 20 individuals questioned during the investigation.

Following the submission of the closure report, the Bandra magistrate court has set the next hearing for April 8. Once the court approves the closure report, the case can be officially closed.

In a statement, Rhea Chakraborty's lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, expressed gratitude to the CBI for thoroughly investigating every aspect of the case but criticized the false narratives surrounding it, calling them "totally uncalled for."

He stated, “Due to the pandemic everyone was glued to the TV & social media in the absence of anything happening in the country. Innocent people were hounded and paraded before the media and investigative authorities. I hope this does not repeat in any case... Rhea Chakraborty had to undergo untold miseries and was behind bars for 27 days for no fault of hers until Justice Sarang V Kotwal released her on bail.”

This is not the first time an actor’s insanely inflated remuneration has been circulated, and it certainly won’t be the last. Hold your breath! Kiara Advani’s remuneration for Geetu Mohandas’s Toxic is rumoured to be a whopping Rs. 15 crores.

When I reached out to someone close to the project, they dismissed the claim outright. “Firstly, no actress in India gets that kind of money—not even Alia Bhatt or Deepika Padukone. Secondly, Kiara is certainly not being paid Rs. 15 crores. It’s ridiculous to even suggest such a figure.

Let’s be very honest—Toxic is being marketed worldwide as Yash’s film. The co-stars don’t impact the film’s economics in the same way. This is Yash’s first project post-KGF, and his fans are eagerly awaiting its release in March 2026.”

However, the source was quick to clarify that Kiara does play a significant role in Toxic. “It’s not as if she has an inconsequential part. But in terms of the film’s commercial viability, her presence doesn’t alter the equation.”

So, how much has Ms. Advani actually been paid? “That, I won’t disclose. It’s a good amount but nowhere near the exaggerated figures circulating in the media. These inflated numbers only harm the actor in the long run, even if they might seem beneficial for future negotiations.”

The wait is finally over! After much anticipation, the official trailer for Sikandar will be dropping this Sunday, March 23, starring superstar Salman Khan and the charming Rashmika Mandanna. Producer Sajid Nadiadwala and the director A R Murugadoss aim to give the fans an edge-of-the-seat thrill ride, complete with powerful performances, breathtaking visuals, and a plot that keeps you guessing until the very end.

The film has built a lot of anticipation amongst the fans. The industry too is waiting to see the power packed trailer event since the first announcement of the film. The trailer will offer the first glimpse of one of the most awaited releases of the year.

In a rare instance, the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) passed the final print of Sikandar as well as its trailer on the same day, which is today.

Another rare aspect of Sikandar is its Sunday release. A source earlier told Bollywood Hungama, “The makers are confident that it’s the correct day for release. Sunday will be a big holiday, more so in Maharashtra as Gudi Padwa falls on that day. Meanwhile, Ramzan Eid will be celebrated on Monday, March 31. There’ll be a post-Eid holiday effect on Tuesday, April 1 and Wednesday, April 2 in many centres as well. The collections will again see a jump from Friday, April 4. Hence, until Sunday, April 6, the film’s collections will remain very strong.”

Jaya Bachchan never minces words. Most of the time, people appreciate her outspokenness. However, her recent statement calling the 2017 Akshay Kumar-starrer Toilet: Ek Prem Katha an inappropriately titled flop has not gone down well with some.

The film’s co-producer, Prerna Arora, is hurt by the remark. "Let me first state that I am a huge, HUGE fan of Jayaji. For me, she is the ultimate. I can watch Guddi, Uphaar, Abhimaan, and Mili anytime, anywhere, and feel happy about life. It is, therefore, very hurtful to hear her say that our film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha was a flop. Ma’am should check the box office figures. Our film earned a very handsome profit. It was one of the five biggest hits of 2017."

As for the title, Prerna reveals that it was retained after considerable debate. "We weren’t sure about the title at first. It seemed risky to have the word ‘toilet’ in the title, especially before ‘A Love Story.’ But eventually, we settled on the edgy title. As a producer, I have taken risks. What is cinema if it only sticks to the expected? Jaya Ma’am took risks with her role choices all the time. She did Doosri Sita, where she played a woman who murders her abusive husband.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is a film I am very proud of. I would love to show it to Jaya Ma’am if she would permit."

National Cinema Day and Cinema Lovers Day had a huge impact on footfalls at one point. But the last Cinema Lovers Day, which was held on January 17, failed to entice and this had led to a question mark on whether it still has the same pull. Nevertheless, today, Friday, March 21, is the day when most theatres across the country are selling tickets for cheap rates. But unlike the previous instances, there has been no declaration by the theatres or Multiplex Association of India about this scheme.

Yesterday, the makers of The Diplomat announced that the John Abraham-starrer’s tickets would be available for flat Rs. 99 on March 21. The offer is valid on normal seats and not on luxury format classes or screens. A few hours before the announcement, Chhaava makers also informed the viewers that their film, too, can be watched at reasonable prices.

Soon, it came to light that the tickets for all the new and holdover releases would be priced reasonably. The maximum ticket price of Superboys Of Malegaon, Crazxy and the new films like Tumko Meri Kasam and Pintu Ki Pappi are available for Rs. 150 while the morning shows are priced at Rs. 99 or Rs. 112. Those venturing out to see Tumko Meri Kasam, starring Anupam Kher, Ishwak Singh, Esha Deol and Adah Sharma, will be in for a treat as besides cheap tickets, they can also avail of the Buy One Ticket Get One Free offer. The BOGO scheme is available until Sunday, March 23.

This is probably the first time that BOGO and Cinema Lovers Day offers have been given to moviegoers. Another first is that the IMAX tickets of the new Hollywood release Snow White and the successful re-release Interstellar are available for just Rs. 149. This price point is fixed only for morning shows and that too in select IMAX screens like PVR Lower Parel, Eros Churchgate and Inox R City Ghatkopar. Yet, it’s significant as during the previous National Cinema Day and Cinema Lovers Day celebrations, the IMAX tickets were sold for Rs. 199.

Meanwhile, some multiplexes will see a heavy rush this weekend due to the Red Lorry Film Festival 2025. It’ll be held from March 21 to 23 in Mumbai and Hyderabad. Besides old classics, it’ll also be showing Oscar-winning films, Anora and Emilia Pérez. These films were never released in India theatrically due to Censor issues. Hence, this is a golden chance to see them on the big screen.

On the other hand, the dry period effect is kicking in for some cinemas. The management of Mumbai’s iconic theatre, Gaiety-Galaxy aka G7 multiplex, has shut the biggest screen, Gaiety, until March 29 due to a lack of exciting releases. As per sources, Gaiety will resume operations with the release of Salman Khan’s grand Eid release, Sikandar.
